Kim Flater holds a B.S.N. degree from James Madison University. She worked for 7 years as an ICU
nurse in Washington, DC and Fairfax, VA. She and her husband, Rick, have been married for 22 years
and have 5 children ranging in age from 20 to 7 years. This is the third year that Kim has
homeschooled her three younger children. Kim and her family are active parishioners at St. John the
Evangelist Church in Severna Park where they have lived for the past 13 years.
Larry Kirby is a graduate of Towson and Johns Hopkins Universities, husband of Kathy for 26 years,
and father of seven children ranging in age from 26 to eight years old. He is an active parishioner of
St. John the Evangelist, where he serves on the school board, and as a core team member of the “That
Man is You” program. Larry was a founding board member (treasurer) and three-year participant of the
Saint John Paul II Academy, a homeschooling cooperative. He works as a principal software engineer
at The Kenjya-Trusant Group in Columbia, Maryland.
Lorraine Landerkin holds a BS degree in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland. She interned at NASA and began working at AMS, a high technology management consulting firm in 1989. At The Hunter Group, she traveled around the country and in Europe as a consultant working with companies from many sectors including government, college and universities, banking, manufacturing, utilities and non-profits. She and her husband Greg starting their own consulting firm in 1998 that is still operating today. Despite her effort to be a “stay at home Mom”, God called her to service to develop a Confirmation program for her local parish and later serve as Director of Information Systems there. She served on the Board of Walking With Purpose and started a chapter at St. Christopher’s Church. Lorraine loves spending time with her 5 children, ages 11 – 20, and husband of 22 years at their home on Kent Island.
Ruth Popp holds a B.S. degree in Political Science with a Spanish minor from the United States Naval
Academy. As a Naval Officer, she served 6.5 years on active duty. She is a focused and energetic
homeschooling veteran of 18 years. Ruth has also served as a writer, speaker, and small group leader
for “Walking With Purpose,” a Roman Catholic women’s ministry enabling women to know Christ
Marie Richardson is a homeschool veteran of 13 years. She and her husband David have been married 20 years and have three daughters, ranging in age from 17 to 11 years old. A native of California, she accompanied David in his duties in the U.S. Navy around the country and overseas before settling 10 years ago in Maryland. She has been an active volunteer in the homeschool community and at her daughters’ various activities. Marie and her family recently moved to Arnold where they have become parishioners of St John the Evangelist.
John Freymann (Board Treasurer) is an active-duty Navy officer, currently serving at the U.S.
Naval Academy as a military professor in history. He has a B.S. in Optics from the University of
Rochester, a Ph.D. in the History of Christianity from the University of Chicago, and (only) four
bicycles. John and his wife, Melissa, are active parishioners of St. John the Evangelist Church.
They are raising and home-schooling four children, ranging in age from six to thirteen.
